The Heart Valve Disease European Alliance will join forces with the Global Heart Hub
June 02, 2019
The six member countries from the Heart Valve Disease European Alliance met in Paris last month to discuss the upcoming Heart Valve Disease European Awareness week. While an agreement was made that the awareness day would become a week, more specifically, the third week of September, they also came to an agreement about a new organisational model going forward.
The members of the Alliance made up of patient organisations from France, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, Ireland and the UK will now join forces with the Global Heart Hub Patient Council for Heart Disease and will be chaired by Wil Woan, Chief Executive of Heart Valve Voice.
The Global Heart Hub is an alliance of heart patient organisations that brings together patient groups from all over the world. The organisations are united by their combined mission of raising awareness of heart disease and membership in the Global Heart Hub gives them a platform to share their experiences, views, best practice, goals and resources.
“The Global Heart Hub is the ideal organisational platform for the European Heart Valve Disease Alliance,” said Neil Johnson, Chief Executive of Croi in Ireland. “It represents a number of other patient focussed heart disease organisations who are all unified in their goals of improving patient outcomes for those living with or affected by any of the diseases that affect the heart.”
Becoming a member of Global Heart Hub will allow the European Heart Valve Disease Alliance complete independence in terms of branding, messaging and governance, but will also provide them with a chance to become part of a global cardiovascular disease community and provide bigger funding opportunities.
“This is a big step forward for the European Heart Valve Disease Alliance and will help to strengthen our capacity and reach in our mission to increase the awareness of heart valve disease,” said Wil. “Our membership with the Global Heart Hub will allow us to share valuable resources and expertise from other organisations and will help us to amplify the heart valve disease patient’s voice not only across Europe but globally.”
